Our Technology

Mosquitech addresses the rising mosquito problem by using an effective, natural and chemical-free method. Our key green technology relies on a proprietary and stable strain of the Wolbachia bacterium. This bacterium is naturally present in nature under different forms, our highly effective strain relies on its natural properties to be harmless to humans and the overall ecosystem. The bacterium is used in male mosquitoes, which do not bite nor carry diseases, the bacterium sterilizes the mosquitoes by naturally reducing the ability to lay eggs and drastically reducing the next generation.

To date:

  • Mosquitech is effective on mosquito species that currently inhabits US.

  • Mosquitech is 100% natural; as such it does not generate any resistance.

  • Mosquitech does not use any chemical, making it a safe and green technology more effective than existing options.

  • Mosquitech is 100% safe for people, animals and the entire ecosystem.

Our technology is able to render wild females sterile, the technical name for this approach is “Incompatible Male”.

Our male mosquito presents the following advantages when compared to the usual control method based on insecticides:

  • Mosquito males DO NOT bite!

  • A single male can live up to 3 weeks

  • Mosquito males are mobile and  actively seeking females to mate

  • While females usually only mate once, males can mate 3 times a day, thus quickly reducing and controlling the local population

Our male mosquitoes mate with females already present in the environment, rendering sterile the eggs produced by the females as our technology would naturally generate embryonic mortality.

Mosquitech’s unique technology is a naturally occurring intracellular bacterium, which passes from generation to generation through the eggs produced by females. The bacterium is harmless and confined to the insects, in fact up to 60% of known insects species are already host of the Wolbachia bacterium. The bacterium is absolutely safe for vertebrates, including humans.
